New Year – Same old $hit?

Figured I’d try to keep up with the blog posts – things are going OK here in 2023 (as good as they can anyway). I’ve gotten nothing but good news from follow up doc visits, so I can at least be thankful for that.

Towards the end of last year, I realize just how much different my take on the holidays are vs years ago. As an adult, the magic is just…gone. I just see it now as the busiest, craziest, most overloaded month of the year.

So much to do at work, so much to do at home, especially around the holidays. I found myself constantly asking why bother? Why bother putting up lights when nobody sees them. Why bother getting a tree when they cost $100 and it’ll be chucked maybe 3-4 weeks later. That said, I was very thankful this year that my entire family was able to get together – they got to see my (minimal) Christmas lights, my $100 tree, and enjoy some time together. At Thanksgiving, I said I was “thankful for Cardiologists” lol.

I’m going to try to change that mindset this year. I’m not sure how yet, but I made a note in my calendar for end of September to start thinking “holidays”, maybe that’ll help spread out the workload, but we’ll see.

Another front is my garage – its been a mess. Last year I made a substantial investment in getting the AC/Heat fixed, so now I keep the junk warm. I really need to start using the garage again, which means cleaning house and ditching projects I’ll never get to.

I’ve also been introspective to all my various hobbies too; while I have *ahem* many, it seems I tend to focus on 1-2 at any given time, which is a pretty normal human thing. I often revisit the thought that I should actually pair down my number of interests though, but it just never seems to happen.

Last but not least on the “deep thoughts by JeffG” list – music. I haven’t really been to a major concert in…years. I haven’t even HEARD any new music in forever – it seems Philly radio just keeps looping the same tired 70s-90s hits, and not really ever play anything new. I’m trying to figure out how to be more in tune with what’s happening in music, and balance out the right-brain stuff to not always been the uber-connected nerd 24/7.

Thats it for now – I hope all 4.5 people that read this have a great 2023!
