Cinema I & II Movie Theater – Plymouth Meeting Mall 1992

I figured I’d share this to get a copy posted up here. My sister sent me this since it was shared on Facebook recently, and as a nostalgia nut this is the kind of stuff I LOVE finding. This is the movie theater at the Plymouth Meeting Mall, in Plymouth Meeting PA, likely around 1992 (due to the movie poster you see – the movie was “Boomerang“.)

This brings back awesome memories of not only watching many movies there, but also playing the arcade games they had in the front, particularly the Nintendo VS cabinet they had. Unfortunately the theater was gutted not too long after this when they remodeled the mall, and opened a new theater outside the mall. This was located where the Lego store and the mini-food-court currently is, as of 2019.

While the mall is still there, I feel like it never quite bounced back from that remodel, and definitely lost it’s 80’s mall vibe with it. The remodel was necessary though; the King of Prussia Plaza (mall) went through a MAJOR remodel and expansation back then and it only made sense to try to keep up. Both malls are recently undergoing more remodeling and expansion; King of Prussia painted everything white on white, and with the loss of Macy’s (formerly Strawbridge’s), Plymouth Meeting mall is adding a bunch of new stores and restaurants including Dick’s sporting goods, Burlington Coat Factor, Miller’s Ale House, and more.

I have a bunch of my own Plymouth Meeting Mall pics and stories I’ll be posting up, including a video of my uncles hanging in the foot court before it got remodeled. The video shows a vibrant amount of people shopping there, something I haven’t seen in a while.

I’m always looking for any old pictures, videos, or anything else from the Conshohocken, Plymouth Meeting, King of Prussia and other surrounding Philadelphia PA suburbs, particularly Dorney Park and the Franklin Institute.

Remember to take pics kids! They don’t always have to be “interesting”.
